Ghanaian scientist and researcher, Albert Kobina Mensah (PhD), has come under criticism by his Facebook followers after he mentioned in a Facebook post that the E-Levy has not been abolished.
Meanwhile on March 26, 2025, the Parliament of Ghana abolished the controversial levy after passing Repeal Bill, pending presidential assent.
But Mensah took to his Facebook page and wrote “Elevy still lives among us! Just a couple of minutes ago. Let’s no one lie to you!”
Some of his followers have since expressed their surprise about the ignorance of the PhD holder with respect to such basic matters while others have called him out for engaging in misinformation.
“exactly. He’s rather the one lying to us and creating the misleading impression that we should be expecting to see a certain premature reality when it isn’t the case,” Dimmie Ibrahim commented.
“Ebei…Lol. You should know this basic thing,” Ekow Djan, commented.
Paul Suhuyini Dajia, another Facebook user commented “Aaaaah AK Mensah PhD paaa. There’s something called presidential assent. Until that is done a bill passed by Parliament doesn’t take effect automatically or immediately. Even when the president assent to the bill, it would have to be communicated to the Telcos to reconfigure their systems to remove it…which I believe wouldn’t take a day to do. Is it mischief or you sincerely didn’t know about this?”
“Ah, but who has lied about anything? Are you not following parliamentary proceedings? And if you’re not at least check the latest before posting erh?” Another follower commented.
