The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared its support for the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South Constituency, Hon Atta Akyea, for calling former president John Dramani Mahama a drunkard.
The MP, in a recent mini-rally made comments suggesting that the flag bearer for the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama is a drunkard. This caused the NDC to release a press statement, demanding a retraction and an apology from Hon. Akyea.
In a response to the NDC in a press release on August 30, 2024, the Youth Wing of the NPP, led by Salam Mustapha emphatically stated that the leadership of the NPP should not render an apology to Mahama and the NDC.
According to him, John Mahama and some key officials of the NDC have made similar derogatory remarks against the NPP`s flag bearer, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and other leaders of the party in the past, but they did not complain.
“…John Mahama himself few days ago called Dr. Bawumia a liar without any apology or reprimand. Now, just a small punch from Hon. Atta Akyea and they are bleathing?” The press release said.
According to the NPP Youth, the tag on the former president as a drunkard came from one of the NDC`s top official, Dr. Kwabena Donkor. Donkor has since not retracted nor apologized to the former president.
