Black Panther actress Connie Chiume dies at 72

Veteran award-winning South African actress Connie Chiume has passed, her family confirmed through the actress` official Instagram page.

She was 72.

“The Chiume family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award winning actress Connie Chiume.”

“Connie Chiume 72, passed on at Garden City Hospital today on the 6th August 2024. The Family asks for privacy during this difficult period. The family will communicate further details,” read the statement.

Chiume was a celebrated actress due to her versatility and creativity she carried into every role she was assigned to play. She featured in notable movies such as the international blockbuster “Black Panther,” “Black is King” and “Blessers.” She spent 45 years acting, during which she was awarded for a commitment and contributions towards the arts industry.

Among the numerous awards Chiume received included honors at the Hollywood and African Prestigious Awards (HAPA), the 16th South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas), the Hennessy VSOP Privilège Lifetime Achievement Award from the GQ Men of the Year awards, and the Royalty Soapie Awards.

News of her demise has resulted  an avalanche of tributes from actors and actresses, fans of her work and supporters.
